Their story
Interviewed at the Syracuse NY field office. We filed the I-130, I-485 and I-765 on February 25, 2026. Biometrics were scheduled March 7 and completed March 22. The interview was scheduled on June 15 and held July 21. The I-130 was approved July 23 and the I-485 on July 25, 2026.
Back when I was a student I did some babysitting, which I disclosed properly both in the filing and at the interview. No other violations — no overstay.
The interview was long and the officer was thorough, but nothing he asked felt tricky. He was friendly and made jokes.
Questions the officer asked
- 1.It was more of a casual conversation. From what I can recall:

- 4.My full name
- 5.How did you meet?
- 6.When did you meet in person? (we met on a dating app)
- 7.When did you decide to "make it official"?
- 8.When did he propose — tell me the story of the proposal
- 9.When did you get married? We had three ceremonies, so we told him about all of them and showed him the photos; he looked at them in detail
- 10.To me:
- 11.My husband's full name and date of birth
- 12.All the routine questions — have you overstayed, unauthorized work, and every other yes/no question on the application
- 13.I answered yes to unauthorized work, so he asked me to tell him more about it
- 14.He asked to keep the additional evidence we brought, saying it would take him a little while to scan it and update the file. He said everything "looked good" and that we had "good evidence", but that other people were also looking at the case so he couldn't make a decision right away. He couldn't give a time estimate, though he mentioned similar cases taking a couple of days without promising anything.

Their advice
Label your photos with date, place and a one-line description. Ours were labeled that way and the officer went through the wedding photos in detail.
Disclose unauthorized work and be ready to explain it. I babysat as a student, declared it in the filing and again at the interview, and the officer simply asked me to tell him more.
Bring the extra evidence physically. The officer kept ours to scan into the file, and the small things — emergency contact designations at work, wedding vendor receipts, save the dates — were part of what he called "good evidence".
Don't panic if there's no decision in the room. He said other people were also reviewing the case and he couldn't give a timeline; the approvals came two and four days later.
